  • Musique Chienne

  • josey rebelle

Josey Rebelle is a DJ from London, described as “the genre-bending DJ dominating top-tier dancefloors worldwide” (Mixmag) and “a hero of the UK music scene” (The Face). With accolades and awards including DJ Mag’s 100 of the World’s Best DJs 2022 list, BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix of the Year 2019, DJ Mag Best of British Award for Best Compilation 2020, Resident Advisor Mix of the Year 2020, a coveted DJ Mag cover and regular appearances on annual ‘Best Of’ lists for her DJ sets, mixes and radio shows, the London born-and-bred DJ seamlessly traverses genres with a fearless energy that evokes the spirit of her home city.

Raised in a Caribbean culture of dancers, DJs and sound system operators, Josey was introduced to the decks at an early age, taught to mix by her brother on his house, techno and jungle collection when she was 13. But it was some years - and countless hours of practice - later that she gained the confidence to graduate from bedroom DJ to the booth of the club, eventually earning her stripes as a resident at legendary London basement club Plastic People as well as decade-long host of a weekly show on pioneering London radio station Rinse FM. As well as playing mesmerising sets at the world’s most iconic clubs and festivals, drawing in fans everywhere from hazy festival stages to the main floor of Berghain (including an exclusive London residency at The Pickle Factory from 2018-2020), Josey has also recorded highly-acclaimed mixes for BBC Radio 1, The Trilogy Tapes, Resident Advisor, The Face and Fader magazine. She appeared on the first official Boiler Room broadcast in 2010 and made the cover of DJ Mag in February 2020. 2020 also marked the release of her first ever compilation album, Josey in Space, released on Beats in Space Records and featuring a trove of exclusives and previously vinyl-only secret weapons taken from the depths of her cherished record collection. Josey In Space was crowned Best Compilation at the DJ Mag Best of British Awards 2020 and Resident Advisor’s Mix of the Year. Josey’s limited edition cassette tape mix for The Trilogy Tapes, released in 2021 as a meticulously-curated ode to her teenage years, was described by Pitchfork magazine as the year’s “most faithful evocation of a vintage UK pirate-radio broadcast”.

“Josey Rebelle is a rarity,” The New Yorker stated. “A name DJ whose name comes not from producing (she doesn’t) but strictly from her work on the decks”. With no social media presence, Josey has worked hard over the years to build a reputation based on selection, passion and authenticity, to separate herself from the noise and arrive at a place where nothing more is required than the thing she loves most: to step into the darkness of the DJ booth and play.

  • NKISI

Nkisi produces intense, powerful club tracks equally influenced by African polyrhythms, hardcore techno, and '70s Italian horror films. The London-based musician and visual artist is one of the co-founders of NON Worldwide, a collective of experimental artists from across the African diaspora. After releasing several digital and vinyl EPs throughout the 2010s, Nkisi's full-length debut, 7 Directions, appeared in 2019. In 2020, Nkisi's new label INITIATION emerges with INT001, a 3 track EP melting rhythmic noise strategies with secret drum languages from Ancient Kongo traditions. As a fierce DJ, Nkisi channels 160+bpm kickdrums, metallic hectic percussions and hypnotizes the dance floor into a ritualistic transcendental space. Melika Ngombe Kolongo was born in Congo, raised in Belgium, and began using the moniker Nkisi after moving to London in 2012.

Gravitating toward the more aggressive side of dance music, yet maintaining a heavy emotional factor as well as a sense of dreaminess, she began producing music in addition to being resident at a club night called Endless. Her first releases, 16 and 21, appeared on Doomcore, the Hamburg-based label run by LowEntropy, in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Along with Chino Amobi and Angel-Ho, Nkisi co-founded NON Worldwide in 2015, and began appearing on the label's compilations. She began hosting a monthly program on NTS Radio in January of 2016, and composed music for installations and theatre performances held in several galleries throughout London and Europe during the next few years. Her first vinyl release, Kill EP, was released by MW in 2017. During the year, she also curated the annual festival held by Wysing Arts Centre in Cambridge, which was titled Opaque Poetics. Nkisi's EP The Dark Orchestra was released by Warp's long-dormant Arcola imprint after it was revived in early 2018. Her debut full-length, 7 Directions, was issued by Lee Gamble's UIQ label in 2019. The album was inspired by the African cosmology of the Bantu-Kongo, particularly the writings of Kongo scholar Dr. Kimbwandende Kia Bunseki Fu-Kiau.
